Summer Dance Camp Graphics

Forward Momentum Chicago is an arts nonprofit that inspires the possibilities of dance through education programs. Each year, they provide the children of Chicago with a five or six-week all-day summer dance camp. This year's theme was Emerald City! All Things The Wiz and The Wizard of Oz.

For camp, I partnered with the programs team to develop digital assets showcasing the camp's theme. Let's dive into this project!

Process

I was excited to discover ✨ free ✨Wiz-based assets by Larry Springfield (IG: 0ne0nlylarry), a designer from Atlanta. Using his work highlights the importance of researching first and collaborating with the creative community.

Fonts

I chose a playful and bubbly font to bring a sense of fun and creativity. The goal is for the user (parents/guardians) to see the content as relaxed and approachable.
To balance things out, for the second font I went the clean and modern Lato. This combination maintains clarity and readability without compromising the theme.

Weekly Reminder

Communicating with parents is to top priority; we're responsible for their children for large portions of the day. Throw in weekly field trips with complicated logistics, and things get tricky. Because of the expected chaos, we limit primary communication to email and texting via the Remind App.

Accessibility

Recognizing the diversity of Chicago's parent community, it's essential to make the graphics accessible by translating them into Spanish, ensuring more parents can easily understand and engage.
